Lisa Phillips, WWRM President:
Feb. 2, 2008
To All,
I wanted to give you all an update. I know that you have not heard from me in while but that does not mean the issues have not been being worked - it means that I lost my computer in a flood back in October but WWRM has been working the issues. I am back on line now and want to update you on all of the actions WWRM has been working on and continue to work on:
H Res 111 - We are still working with the Korean War Group and the National Alliance on this(it has been rumored that WWRM is not working with the other groups on this - that is false information) - at this writing we have 257 cosponsors on this bill. You can view this at: http://www.nationalalliance.org/. We are in the process of taking it to the next level. We will be coming up with a letter that I will forward to all of you to send to your Congressional leaders. Here is the link to the bill.
X-Files: In October the FOIA agency stated it would take 24 weeks to obtain these files. I have written again and have asked my Senator to help obtain these files. Surely there must be some of these files available by this time.
Monumental Gains: WWRM was able to gain support of the Indian Gov't/JPAC/DPMO on crash sites reported to us in India. There was a meeting in DC last week to discuss the possibility of recovering those crash sites. The meeting involved the Indian Gov't, DPMO, and JPAC.
Bangladesh: At the writing of this e-mail a crash site is being investigated in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Republic of the Philippines (RP): There are talks of some recovery missions upcoming in RP. WWRM was again able to speak with officials to have these sites looked into and we hope that Mike Hill's case will be on the radar screen for the upcoming year. We are still working on Lois' brothers case in RP and hope we can get support there as well through the same contacts we had on the Hill case.
Underwater (UW) recoveries: We were denied the appropriations but will be applying again this year for the UW recoveries. I will be traveling to DC next month to speak with Sen. Snowe on this and resubmitting the application.
Europe: The European team continues to work these cases.
Website: We are in the process of reworking the website and adding message boards and databases. Gary and Gina Zaetz are working with me on this.
Where we need help from our member community:
Lois Spencer has resigned as Secretary/Treasurer, we need help with the following and we need someone who is willing and has time to work on a long term basis:
- Secretary: to send out letters, newsletters to members, and general secretarial items.
- Treasurer: we are looking for someone with either a CPA background or bookkeeping background.
- Archivist: we are looking for someone in the DC area to go to the Archives once a month to pull documents for the families.
